City Seal History

The City Seal is worn on the shoulder of the police department uniforms. This seal was designed by Scott Root as a project and was selected by the city as representation of the following events and landmarks for Chapman, Kansas.
 
The City of Chapman was incorporated in 1872.
Grain Elevators represents the old grain elevators by the Union Pacific Railroad Tracks.
The Shamrock represents the Irish founders and today's mascot of Chapman schools, " The Fighting Irish".
The church symbol represents the part of Catholic Church history in Chapman, which was founded by the Irish Settlers
The covered wagon represents the Butterfield Stage Coach Line which ran through the City of Chapman.
The shafts of wheat are a symbol of Kansas and the agriculture setting of the city
The Space Shuttle  represents former community member, Astronaut Joe Engle.
 The old bridge symbols the bridge that crossed the 
 Smoky River River south of Chapman.
